Janice Boling became interested in herbal medicine when an elderly neighbor taught her about mullein's healing properties. Thank you Ethel Harkins Fox!
For over 40 years, Janice has used herbs to keep herself, her family, friends, pets, and farm animals healthy. She has grown herbs, studied them, and shared remedies with family and friends.
Ms. Boling continues to promote the use of the healing arts in Northern Georgia and beyond.
Most of the posts in this blog were first published by the North Georgia News in a weekly column titled Every Green Herb by Janice Boling. Since Janice is also an Internet Specialist specializing in Web Design, it was only natural to create an online archive of her writings so that others could freely access them.
Every Green Herb is a labor of love where Ms. Boling shares knowledge about treating common health problems, individual herbs, and her experiences in the field of herbal medicine.
Janice has participated in many heritage festivals that aim to keep old-timey ways alive. Known as The Herb Lady, Janice is also an accomplished artist, writer, and photographer.
She lives with Tony Payne on Payne Mountain Farms along with an assortment of cows, chickens, cats, a couple of roosters, and a bull.
Janice says, "The best way to really learn about herbal medicine is to smell different herbs, taste them, use them daily, and grow them if possible. Herbal medicine is a way of life. It is not a quick fix, so give herbs time to work. And don't forget prayer, meditation, and a loving touch. These are like icing on the cake."
"The best reason is that they work. The next is cost. Compared to mainstream medicine, herbal medicine is not expensive!"
"Herbs work on the body, the mind, and the spirit. Herbs are a gift from God that complement the loving hands of our caregivers. Add in a touch from our Great Physician, Jesus, and miracles start to happen."
